Chalk Hill Artist Residency
Chalk Hill Artist Residency (2018)
In autumn of 2017, C.K.Itamura was granted a Chalk Hill Artist Residency that would take place at Warnecke Ranch in Healdsburg, California during autumn of 2018. The opportunity, which promised to provide time and space to pursue creative work, proved also to bestow inspiration and a hightened sense of awareness in the realms of self, interpersonal relationships, and the environment.
Physical work on s+oryproblem :: 156 began during C.K.’s tenure as Artist in Residence at the Chalk Hill Artist Residency in 2018, where the quiet, uninterrupted time, the large well-lit converted barn space, and the comfortable accommodations within close walking distance of the studio, allowed her to focus on this project and provided her with the spaciousness needed for this undertaking.
Work on two additional projects, Vague Sense and Here also began during this time. The former was inspired by the studio space itself at Chalk Hill Artist Residency and the latter was inspired by the grounds at Warnecke Ranch, where Chalk Hill Artist Residency is located. This mounting of multiple projects concurrently — a feat which C.K. would not have been able to engage in in her smaller, private studio - was made possible by the abundant space in and around the Chalk Hill Artist Residency barn studio that the she was given access to.
